Ever since I gave up eating turkeys, Thanksgiving has been a planning challenge. I've tried to put together a menu that was inspiring and original. Each year, I've had something that made my omni friends, at least, a bit envious. I truly hate the forlorner look on people's faces when you tell them that you won't be eating a turkey. This year, I've put together another holiday stuffing and, this week, I'll post a squash casserole and another delicious gravy.
This year, I stumbled upon a great resource. Robin Robertson, author of 1000 Vegan Recipes has a number of her recipes posted over at Vegan.com. The full recipes and instructions are posted. So, if you don't have 1000 Vegan Recipes, follow the link for some delicious looking ideas.
Robin's 2009 Thanksgiving Menu:
Seitan en Croute
Madeira Sauce
Rum-Spiked Sweet Potatoes with Pomegranate Pecans
Triple Cranberry Relish
Roasted Asparagus
Garlic Smashers
Stuffed Winter Squash (optional main dish)
Ginger-Dusted Pumpkin Cheezecake
Garlic chana dal.

Pomegranate Pecans!? Yummy!
I made a fully vegan thanksgiving last year, because I was expecting a vegan friend and my parents, (both die-hard omnis,) and even though my friend didn't show up, my parents exclaimed multiple times how good the food was! Woo!
I made stuffed squash for our entree, which was well-received.
all of this sounds amazing but were not even having dinner for thanksgiving. because its just me and my parents for thanksgiving. this is the first year after my sister moved across the country and my extended family is staying where they are for turkey day.
and then theres me being a vegetarian for thanksgiving for the first time, they decided they would have a hungryman frozen dinner because they wont eat tofurkey lol.
it kinda sucks being a vegetarian teen because my parents dont really accomadate fully to it and i cant really buy ALL the groceries and plan ALL the meals
The Thanksgiving in Canada was few weeks ago. However, this year we didn't have classical Thanksgiving dinner. I had decided that I wouldn't make turkey. Some of our family members were little bit upset but so fantastic vegan recipes from the internet make the dinner very delicious. Even without turkey.
Take care,
Ella
It is very interesting for me to read this post. Thanks for it. I like such themes and anything connected to this matter. I would like to read more on that blog soon.
